Deep roots of traditional giving in Africa have evolved significantly in recent years from a largely informal nature to an organised shape practised in different forms and guided more and more by institutional philanthropy, finds ‘The State of Institutional Philanthropy in East Africa’, a bi-annual report produced by the East Africa Philanthropy Network.
The report looks specifically at institutions that are promoting local giving practices – from community-based entities, family-owned, to private social entities. The research also demonstrates the growing wealth of information and knowledge on local giving in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.
